Squak Glacier - 2013

Squak Glacier - July 15, 2013

The Squak Glacier is a great alternative climb or descent from Mount Bakers standard southern route, the Easton Glacier. Skiers can still find good conditions for this time of year which should hold for a few more weeks as sun cups have only formed on slopes up to the 7,500 ft. mark. Currently the Squak route does little meandering between Metcalf moraine and Crag View camps up to the Sherman Crater. Few crevasses have shown themselves in this section requiring little route finding or end running. Once reaching the Sherman Crater the route merges with the Easton route for the final  1,500 ft. of the climb to the summit plateau. Be sure to get an early start and return off the glacier before the hottest periods of the day. Please remember to use waste management systems such as Blue Bags in order to pack out all food and human waste off the mountain. See you on the Mountain!
